Day 1 Join us for an amazing tour featuring Maine and Coastal New England, truly some of the most beautiful scenery in our nation. Today we head east and arrive at our overnight destination near Carlisle, PA. D
Day 2 Today’s route takes us to beautiful Long Island. Our step on guide will share the rich history and natural beauty as well as point out many of the oceanfront homes of the rich and famous of “The Hamptons”. We’ll enjoy scenic water views en-route to our hotel near Long Island. B
Day 3 We enjoy the scenery today as we board the ferry crossing the Long Island Sound to New London, Connecticut. Shortly, we arrive in Mystic country where we will visit Mystic Seaport Museum. The museum features numerous sea vessels and buildings in this restored seaside village. Next, we cross the drawbridge over the Mystic River to historic downtown Mystic. We’ll have time for shopping and lunch on our own. We then take the National Scenic Byway, Route 169 to Woodstock where we’ll enjoy a walk through the garden green at Roseland Cottage. We overnight this evening near Andover, Massachusetts. What a great day! B
Day 4 A day of beautiful scenery awaits us as we depart after breakfast. We will travel the rockbound Massachusetts Cape along scenic route 127 as we make our way to Gloucester, America’s oldest seaport on Cape Ann where we embark on our sightseeing tour. We’ll make a photo stop on Gloucester’s Stacey Boulevard to see the statues that tell the stories of this working fishing village. The movie, The Perfect Storm was filmed here. Lunch will be a treat as we enjoy a traditional lobster bake at the Gloucester House, featuring “in the rough” style dining. After lunch we arrive in Ogunquit, Maine, where we meet our local guide for a tour including charming Kennebunkport. Our drive along Ocean Drive features stunning views of the Maine coastline and the homes of Kennebunkport’s rich and famous, including a slow drive by the summer retreat of former President George H. W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush. We’ll also see the famous “Wedding Cake House”. We’ll have time to explore this little town with its galleries and shops, or you may choose to walk along the waterfront. We continue on to Portland where we will enjoy a two night stay. B,L
Day 5 Another beautiful day of scenery and sightseeing awaits us today. Salt spray, crashing surf and awesome views are all a part of Maine’s rugged coastline. At the Maine Maritime Museum, connect to Maine’s seafaring history in a memorable way – with lighthouses and breathtaking scenery. Traveling through New Harbor, we come to Permaquid Point, site of the first permanent settlement in Maine (1625). We’ll make a photo stop at the lighthouse. Cape Elizabeth is home to one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world, the Portland Head Lighthouse. This afternoon we return to Portland and downtown where you’ll have time to visit the many shops lining the cobblestoned streets and enjoy dinner on your own before returning to the hotel. B
Day 6 Traveling north today we arrive in Bar Harbor. You may explore the village and have time for lunch on your own before touring Acadia National Park. Nowhere along the Atlantic Seaboard is the rock-bound coast as picturesque as in Acadia National Park, one of America’s most visited national parks. Our guide will take us along the scenic park road as we enjoy the spectacular panorama from the summit of Cadillac Mountain, the first place in the continental United States to see the sunrise. Next we drive around the base of the mountain where we stop at Thunder Hole. Here when the right size wave rolls into the naturally formed inlet, a deep thunderous sound emanates. We overnight in Bangor, where we drive by Stephen King’s house. The best-selling author’s home is instantly recognizable by its spider web front gate topped by bats. Dinner is included this evening. Day 7 We leave Maine and enter the natural splendor of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. We stop for lunch in the little town of Gorham, then continue our journey to Mount Washington. We’re in for an unforgettable adventure aboard the historic Mount Washington Cog Railway. Enjoy the magnificent scenery as we make the spectacular climb to the peak of the highest mountain in the northeast. When we reach the 6288’ summit we’ll have time to visit the weather station before traveling back down the mountain. This evening we enter the Green Mountains of Vermont where we spend the night in St. Johnsbury. B
Day 8 We begin the day with a cheese making tour at Cabot Creamery, a 1,200 farm family dairy cooperative. Cabot produces all natural, award-winning cheeses, including the “World’s Best Cheddar”, as well as a tasty variety of flavored cheddars. From here we travel to Middlebury, Vermont, where we have lunch at the historic Waybury Inn. The Inn is better known for the Bob Newhart Show, which aired on CBS from 1982-1990. On our way we pause for a photo at Hammond Covered Bridge. This 145-foot lattice truss bridge was built in 1842. Our next stop is in Weston at the Vermont Country Store, known for their mail order catalog filled with practical hard-to-find items. We overnight near Bennington, Vt. B,L
Day 9 This morning we arrive in the heart of the Berkshire Mountains. Our first stop is the Norman Rockwell Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of original Norman Rockwell art. While in the picturesque town of Stockbridge, we enjoy a delightful sightseeing tour of the Berkshire cottages. These estates, also called cottages, were the homes of Andrew Carnegie, Harley Proctor of Proctor and Gamble, George Westinghouse, the Vanderbilts and many others. Lunch will be included at The Apple Tree Inn, a beautiful property in Lenox, MA featuring stunning mountain views. Tonight we will overnight near Batavia, NY. B,L
Day 10 Regretfully we begin our journey homeward. Plan to arrive early evening anxious to tell our family and friends about the wonderful scenery of New England and Coastal Maine. B
