Day 2 This morning, we travel northwest through the beautiful farmlands of Wisconsin to the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. This afternoon, on our city tour, we’ll learn why there are two cities here instead of just one. This evening we’ll discover and explore the world’s premier retail and entertainment complex – Mall of America! We spend the night in the Minneapolis area. B
Day 3 We depart the Minneapolis area this morning headed for North Dakota. In Little Falls we tour the boyhood home of Charles A. Lindbergh, the former United States Congressman who became famous for his 1927 New York to Paris flight. You will be sure that we are headed west when we enter the wide-open spaces of North Dakota, bound for our overnight in Bismarck. Dinner is included this evening. D
Day 4 After leaving Bismarck we set our sights for the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Here we will stop by the South Visitor’s Center and also visit Roosevelt’s Maltese Cross Cabin. Next it’s on to the Big Sky Country of Montana as we make our way to Billings, the largest city in Montana for our overnight stay. Dinner is included this evening. B, D
Day 5 This morning after our departure we backtrack just a bit so that we can visit the famous Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, the scene of Custer’s “last stand” where Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer and 215 men were killed by Sioux and Cheyenne warriors on June 25, 1876. We continue to Great Falls, Montana and visit the very interesting Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. We’ll overnight in Great Falls with an included dinner enjoyed together. B, D
Day 6 Glacier National Park offers a million acres of the finest mountain scenery. The famed “Going to the Sun Highway” is included in our tour. Our drive includes U-shaped valleys and high peaks carved by vast glaciers that covered this area during the last Ice Age. We travel through one of the most outstanding scenic parks in the world. We exit the Park at Lake McDonald, the largest lake in the Park. The high mountain town of Kalispell is our home for the night. B
Day 7 This morning we travel south along the shores of Flathead Lake into the valley surrounded by the Flathead Indian Reservation and touch the National Bison Range. Entering scenic Idaho we stop at Lake Coeur d’Alene, a spectacular spot in the panhandle of the state. We cruise the pristine waters, then travel to Spokane, Washington for overnight. B
Day 8 After departing Spokane this morning we travel west to the delightful Bavarian alpine village of Leavenworth. The high surrounding peaks make you feel as if you are in the European Alps. There will be time for browsing the downtown shops with lunch on your own in this quaint village. This afternoon we continue on to our destination of Seattle where we will be spending the next two nights. This evening a glass-enclosed elevator takes you to the revolving restaurant atop Seattle’s famed Space Needle to enjoy dinner and a changing panorama. B, D
Day 9 This morning you will enjoy a guided tour of the “Emerald City”. See Puget Sound, the residential areas, the Seattle Center and shoreline. This afternoon and evening you are free to explore and enjoy at your leisure.
Day 10 This morning we will depart bright and early for Mt. Rainier, one of the most striking landmarks in the Northwest. Lunch will be included at the Paradise Inn before departing for Mt. St. Helens where you will explore this majestic wonder. We’ll pause at the interpretation center to see a film on this geologically active area. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers has spent millions of dollars here since the eruption of the volcano. We’ll overnight near Portland, Oregon. L
Day 11 Leaving Portland, we travel through one of the most scenic areas of the United States, the Columbia River Gorge. We visit the Dales Dam and see the world famous Multnomah Falls, cascading some 620 feet. We’ll also stop at Bonneville Dam, with its fishlocks and ladders. Our overnight tonight is in Lewiston, Idaho, known as the Gateway to Hells Canyon. Dinner is included this evening. B, D
Day 12 Today we visit Hells Canyon, the deepest gorge in North America measuring up to one mile and a half from mountain top to river bottom, a remnant of the last Ice Age, when cataclysmic geologic forces and great floods carved the land. This morning our jet boat tour travels up river to the official entrance of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Indians used this site to “cache” or store their dried salmon. Tour the visitor center and fruit orchard while watching for birds and wildlife. A box lunch will be included today. On our return we will see 2000-year old Petroglyphs. We’ll overnight this evening near Boise, Idaho, enjoying an included dinner together. B, L, D
Day 13 Today is another great day of exploring the wonders of the Northwest. We’ll travel from Boise to the Snake River Plain, a volcanic terrain that spans all of southern Idaho. Here, Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve is one of the best places in the world to see the awesome effects of volcanism. For 15,000 years, lava eruptions have created a landscape that has forced animals and plants to adapt, and people to endure or detour, and to ponder. We’ll continue through the Sawtooth National Forest until we come to rest for the night in Ogden, Utah. B
Day 14 Today we pass along the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Carved through the Uinta Mountains by the Green River, Flaming Gorge offers spectacular views from 1,400 feet above the Red Canyon. Laramie, WY is our home for the night. This evening dinner is included. B, D
