What a wonderful way to experience the very best of the Christmas Holidays! This holiday tour has many highlights, including…the Washington National Cathedral, the National Christmas Tree and the Pathway of Peace, Mount Vernon Christmas, and seats to “The Christmas Carol” at Ford’s Theatre! Join us this December to share memories of our nation’s Capital together on this deluxe tour.
Day 1: We’ll depart bright and early for our drive to Chantilly, Virginia where we check into the Marriott Fairfield Inn for our three-night stay. Enjoy dinner and evening at your leisure. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.
Day 2: We will meet our guide after breakfast for a full day of holiday sightseeing. Our drive by Embassy Row features large mansions along Massachusetts Ave., built by the powerful and socially elite after the Civil War. Embassies, associations, foundations, and clubs have claimed and restored these lovely homes. In a city of impressive monuments, memorial, and historic sites, the National Cathedral is unique. Standing higher than the Washington Monument, it is the sixth largest church in the world. This 14thCentury-style Gothic wonder took 83 years to build. It is a living symbol of our country’s heritage of faith and religious freedom. Next, we will experience a Russian Christmas! Enjoy lively music performed by Samovar Russian Folk Music Ensemble and festive dances performed by Kalinka Dance Ensemble. This afternoon we will visit the Basilica of the National Shrine of Immaculate Conception and then depart to see the National Christmas Tree and the Pathway of Peace. Each year the National Christmas Tree is surrounded by 56 state, district, and territory trees, decorated by school children chosen from each state. Dinner this evening is included at Texas Jack’s Barbecue before we embark on an Illuminated Monument Driving Tour. We will walk through the Kennedy Center for a spectacular view of the city from the terrace, stop at the World War II Memorial, drive by the Air Force Memorial, Washington Monument and more. We’ll return to the hotel after a wonderful day! B, D
Day 3: Breakfast is included before we depart for a Mount Vernon Christmas! Mount Vernon has some of the most unique and wonderful holiday shopping of the season to be found in the DC area. Find Colonial style and American Holiday traditions for your home, friends, and family. See the beautifully decorated Mansion and grounds. Tour the Mansion and discover what the Washingtons, enslaved people, and hired workers ate during this season. Watch 18th-century demonstrations and hear stories of Christmases past from costumed characters. This afternoon we will meet a guide and explore the holiday celebrations at the United States Botanic Gardens, a living plant museum. See the poinsettias displayed for the season at the Botanic Garden. Later we will enjoy free time exploring DC Christmas Markets at Penn Quarter before an included dinner at the impressive Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse. Tonight, we have reserved seats to see “The Christmas Carol” and experience Charles Dickens’ beloved Yuletide story of transformation and redemption at Ford’s Theatre. We’ll return to the hotel after the show. B, D
Day 4: After our included breakfast we will set our sights for home. Plan to arrive early this evening with memories and stories to share about our Capital Christmas! B
