Don’t miss the bus this spring…Charleston and Savannah await you!  Visit two great cities of the Old South and so much more.  Historic Charleston is bursting with Southern charm and hospitality.  The city feels like it has been suspended in time…with antebellum architecture and plantation landscapes.   Savannah’s beauty, with hundreds of years of history, is magically enhanced by the quaint cobblestone streets and majestic architecture.  This tour should be on the bucket list of everyone who loves to see history come alive, delight in beautiful harbors, and enjoy delicious dining!

Day 1:   We begin our southern adventure today as we drive to the lovely state of South Carolina to our overnight destination near Spartanburg, SC.

Day 2:   After our included breakfast we depart for Charleston. This historic port city is bursting with the beauty of the season, and Middleton Place Gardens is no exception.  Here we see the oldest landscaped gardens in America, laid out by Henry Middleton in 1781. One hundred slaves labored for a decade to complete the work. Middleton is a masterpiece of formal landscaping, flowers, lakes, and terracing. After touring Middleton Place, we arrive in Charleston and check in at our hotel for a two-night stay. Dinner is included this evening along the beautiful Charleston waterfront at the Charleston Crab House. B, D

Day 3:   After our included breakfast we meet our local guide for a tour of historic Charleston. See impeccably preserved and restored homes, visit the Battery with some of the settlement’s earliest fortifications, and see St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Spend time at the Market Street area for browsing and lunch on your own.  This afternoon we enjoy a boat cruise to Fort Sumter, the place where the “War Between the States” began.  In addition to seeing the Fort, you will get a sweeping view of the historic Charleston Skyline and beautiful Charleston harbor.  Tonight, we will include dinner at another great Charleston restaurant. B, D

Day 4:   After our included breakfast we will visit Boone Hall Plantation, recognized as the #1 Plantation in the Charleston area by USA Today 10 Best.  Boone Hall Plantation was founded in 1681 when Englishman Major John Boone came to Charleston and established a lucrative plantation and gracious home on the banks of Wampacheone Creek. The spectacular approach to his home of majestic oak trees symbolizes southern heritage and will take root in your memory for years to come.  After our visit we depart for our drive to Beaufort, South Carolina, another great city of the Old South. We will have time in the historic area and enjoy a local guide who will share many historic facts of Beaufort. A dozen movies including “Forrest Gump” have been filmed here. Then we are off to Savannah for a two-night stay. Tonight’s dinner will be included at one of Savannah’s most loved restaurants, the historic Pirate’s House.  B, D

Day 5:   You will be sure to love Savannah! This morning we will take a scenic drive to nearby Tybee Island and see the historic Tybee Island Lighthouse.  We will return to the River District area in Savannah where you can explore and have lunch on your own. This afternoon we take an informative trolley tour seeing the major attractions such as the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the Cotton Exchange, and the historic Riverfront. After touring we have included dinner at the famous Lady & Sons Restaurant.  Enjoy the delicious family-style dinner before enjoying the remainder of the evening at your leisure.  B, D

Day 6:     We depart Savannah this morning after our included breakfast, setting our sights for our overnight at the Drury Inn Knoxville.  Enjoy the Kick-Back reception this evening.  B

Day 7:    Today, after our included breakfast we will visit the Sunsphere, built for the 1982 World’s Fair and is a one-of-a-kind structure.  The 4th Floor Observation Deck offers a breathtaking 360-degree view stretching from downtown to the Great Smoky Mountains including World’s Fair Park, the Tennessee River, and the University of Tennessee!  We depart for home. Our farewell luncheon will be included at the historic Boone Tavern in Berea, Kentucky, giving us time to reminisce together about our wonderful time together. Plan to arrive back early evening after a great visit to the Old South and two of its loveliest cities…Charleston and Savannah and so much more! B, L
